Zcash (ZEC) has emerged as one of the strongest-performing cryptocurrencies in the top 100 by market cap.
According to CoinGecko data, ZEC has gained 18.2% over the past 24 hours, 65% in two weeks, and 166.5% over the past month. Over the last year, its price has climbed more than 2,500%, putting it far ahead of major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC) and Solana (SOL), as well as several large technology stocks.
The move has brought renewed attention to Zcash and its focus on financial privacy. So, what is behind the sudden interest in ZEC, and can the rally continue?
What’s Behind ZEC’s Rally?
The latest move is particularly notable because it comes while much of the broader crypto market has been under pressure.

On September 16, 2026, the market faced a sharp correction following developments around the US CLARITY Act. Bitcoin dropped below the $75,000 level, with several other major assets moving lower as well.
ZEC has moved in the opposite direction.
One possible driver is renewed interest in privacy-focused cryptocurrencies. Zcash allows users to make transactions with enhanced privacy, which can become more appealing when concerns around financial surveillance and transaction visibility increase. Monero (XMR) has also benefited from interest in the privacy-coin sector.
Another factor is the growing attention around Zcash-related ETF products. Grayscale’s launch of a Zcash ETF has given traditional investors another potential route to gain exposure to ZEC. Crypto ETFs have become much more established since the US SEC approved spot Bitcoin ETFs in January 2024.
That combination of privacy demand and increased institutional accessibility may be contributing to the recent momentum.
Can ZEC Keep Rising?
The next phase of Zcash’s rally will likely depend on whether demand for privacy-focused assets remains strong and whether interest surrounding its ETF continues.
At the same time, ZEC remains a highly volatile crypto asset. Broader market conditions, interest rates, liquidity, and investor risk appetite could all affect its performance.
A strong rally can attract attention quickly, but that does not guarantee that the same pace of gains will continue.
