Cardano is drawing attention on two fronts following developments shared at TOKEN2049. Network activity has picked up after the introduction of a new token standard, while the project’s proposed .ada internet domain has moved forward in ICANN’s application process.
The developments come as ADA attempts to recover from a sharp price decline earlier in the week.
New Token Standard Coincides With Higher Activity
Cardano recorded around 27,500 daily active addresses on October 7, according to Santiment Intelligence. Activity remained elevated the following day, reaching roughly 1.7 times the network’s average weekday level in September.
The increase stands out because Bitcoin and Ethereum did not experience a similar rise during the same period. Santiment found that active addresses on both networks remained around or below their September averages, suggesting that Cardano’s activity spike may have been linked to developments specific to its ecosystem.
At #TOKEN2049, Cardano supporters have been saying on-chain activity is picking up. We checked, and this time the data agrees.

One possible factor is the launch of CIP-0113 on October 7.
The new standard allows issuers to build compliance requirements directly into Cardano-based tokens. These can include identity verification (KYC), sanctions screening, and restrictions on transfers. Such features could support regulated assets, including stablecoins and tokenized investment funds.
According to the Cardano Foundation, CIP-0113 went live after undergoing multiple independent security audits and received recognition from the Capital Markets and Technology Association (CMTA).
However, the increase in activity has yet to reach Cardano’s local peak from late August. Whether the higher numbers persist after the launch period will be worth watching.
ADA Attempts a Price Recovery
ADA’s market performance has been volatile. The token recently climbed to around $0.28, reaching a multi-month high before facing selling pressure. By Friday, its price had fallen below $0.24.

The asset subsequently rebounded, gaining more than 7% over the previous 24 hours, according to the figures reported at the time.
The recovery offers some relief after the recent decline, although sustained buying pressure and continued network activity would provide a clearer indication of whether momentum is returning.
Cardano’s .ada Domain Proposal Advances
The other development concerns Cardano’s push to establish .ada as an internet domain extension.
At TOKEN2049, the Cardano Foundation announced that its application had advanced to the next stage of ICANN’s New Generic Top-Level Domains (gTLD) Program. The proposal had previously received approximately 75% support from the Cardano community through an on-chain governance action.
If approved, .ada could function as a conventional internet domain extension, similar to .com and .org.
The Foundation sees potential applications in easier-to-read wallet addresses, decentralized identity services, and tokenized domain ownership. These uses could give the domain a role beyond website addresses within the Cardano ecosystem.
Approval is not guaranteed, however. ICANN must still evaluate the application’s technical, financial, and operational requirements. Under the current program timeline, successful applicants are expected to begin receiving delegated domains between 2028 and 2030.
What Comes Next for Cardano?
Cardano now has two developments to follow: whether the new token standard translates into lasting network activity and whether the .ada application progresses through ICANN’s review.
Both could support the ecosystem’s long-term development, but neither guarantees an increase in ADA’s market price. For now, sustained on-chain engagement and progress through the domain approval process remain the key indicators to monitor.
