Cardano (ADA) remains under pressure after recording further losses, but progress on its Ouroboros Leios upgrade has drawn attention to the network’s long-term potential. With a mainnet-ready release candidate targeted for the end of 2026, traders are watching whether ADA can regain momentum and move toward the $0.30 mark.
ADA dropped 2.04% over 24 hours to approximately $0.219, bringing its weekly decline to around 11%. Meanwhile, the wider crypto market remained relatively stable, with total market capitalization near $2.73 trillion. Bitcoin traded around $81,650, while Ethereum and XRP hovered near $2,400 and $1.30, respectively.
Despite the ongoing development of Leios, a recovery toward $0.30 is far from certain. Short-term price action and derivatives market activity continue to point to mixed conditions.
Cardano Leios Development Reaches 52% Completion
Cardano’s Ouroboros Leios upgrade has reached 52% completion, according to a progress update shared by Cardanians. The latest report listed 28 updates over the preceding week, with several development milestones already marked as complete.
Completed objectives include the improvement proposal, technical specification, a demonstration targeting 1,000 transactions per second (TPS), and the Leios testnet. However, confidence testing was reported at 45%, while the hard fork milestone remained at 0%.

Leios is designed to increase Cardano’s transaction-processing capacity while preserving network security. Its approach involves additional block production and committee-based validation, with further testing and integration required before a mainnet-ready release candidate can be delivered.
The end-of-2026 target remains a development objective rather than a confirmed deployment date. A mainnet launch would also depend on technical audits, ecosystem coordination, and the required governance approvals.
For now, progress on Leios provides a longer-term development milestone, although its potential impact on ADA’s market price remains uncertain.
ADA Price Analysis: Key Levels to Watch
ADA was trading near $0.2199 on October 17, with the $0.22 level emerging as a key short-term price threshold.

The daily MACD indicator showed continued bearish momentum. Its main line stood at -0.0042, below the signal line at -0.0040, while the histogram registered -0.0002. Both lines remained below zero, suggesting that selling pressure had not yet clearly eased.
The Chaikin Money Flow (CMF) indicator, however, was positive at 0.14. This points to positive money flow, offering a different signal from the bearish MACD. The indicators therefore present a mixed picture rather than a clear confirmation of a sustained recovery.
Downside Levels
If ADA continues trading below $0.22, the next level to watch is around $0.21. A break below that area could bring the psychological $0.20 threshold into focus.

Continued weakness near these support levels would leave the short-term outlook vulnerable, particularly if broader market conditions deteriorate.
Potential Recovery Toward $0.30
On the upside, a sustained move above $0.22 could improve the near-term outlook. The first recovery level would be around $0.23, followed by resistance near $0.25.
A breakout above $0.23 would need to be supported by stronger buying activity to make a move toward $0.25 more convincing. Reaching $0.30 would require a larger recovery from current levels, and the ongoing Leios development alone does not guarantee such a move.
The $0.30 level remains a potential longer-term target, with market sentiment, trading volume, and progress toward the Leios release candidate likely to influence investor expectations.
Cardano Derivatives Show Mixed Trading Activity
Cardano’s derivatives market also showed contrasting signals in the latest reported figures.
ADA derivatives trading volume declined 8.99% to $324.55 million, while open interest increased 1.26% to $487.18 million. Falling volume alongside rising open interest suggests that outstanding positions increased even as trading activity weakened.
Options activity dropped more sharply. Options trading volume fell 92.94% to $6,590, while options open interest edged down 0.27% to $374,920.
These figures indicate a significant slowdown in options trading and a modest decline in outstanding options positions. However, rising aggregate open interest does not establish whether traders are positioning for a rebound or further losses.
What Comes Next for Cardano?
Cardano faces two separate tests: regaining important price levels in the short term and delivering further progress on its Leios upgrade over the longer term.
A move above $0.22 could open the way toward $0.23 and $0.25, while a breakdown below $0.21 would put $0.20 back in focus. Meanwhile, the Leios release candidate remains a development milestone to monitor as Cardano works toward its end-of-2026 target.
For ADA to approach $0.30, technical recovery and stronger market demand would likely be needed alongside continued network development. Until price action confirms a change in momentum, the prospect of a move above $0.30 remains speculative.
