A major Solana investor appears to be betting on another market recovery

Blockchain analytics platform LookOnChain reported that a large SOL holder recently acquired 47,535 SOL, worth roughly $3.6 million at the time of the purchase. What makes the move particularly interesting is the whale’s previous track record. During the 2023 market downturn, the same investor reportedly accumulated 291,790 SOL for approximately $6.82 million well before Solana entered a major recovery.

That raises an obvious question: could this latest purchase be another well-timed bet?

Is the Whale Signaling a Solana Buying Opportunity?

Solana has already demonstrated an impressive ability to recover from severe market setbacks. Following the collapse of FTX in 2022, SOL plunged below $10, leading many investors to question whether the blockchain could survive. Instead, the token staged a dramatic comeback and eventually reached a record price of $293.31 in January 2025.

Smart #Solana whale (GvHYQQ) bought another 47,535 $SOL($3.6M) after over 2 years of inactivity.

The whale perfectly bought the dip in August and October 2023, buying 291,790 $SOL ($6.82M) at an average price of just $23.37.

Then $SOL started to skyrocket.

Since that peak, however, SOL has experienced a substantial correction, losing more than 74% from its 2025 high.

For investors watching the current downturn, the whale’s latest purchase may therefore be worth paying attention to. Its previous accumulation occurred close to a major market bottom, and SOL subsequently embarked on a powerful rally.

There is also a broader market argument behind the bullish outlook. Bitcoin has historically moved through roughly four-year market cycles, and its most recent record was reached in October 2025. If that pattern continues, the next major peak could arrive around 2029, with the broader recovery potentially gaining momentum during 2027. Solana could benefit from the same broader crypto-market cycle.

That doesn’t mean the whale is guaranteed to be correct. Large investors can be wrong, and a single wallet transaction shouldn’t be treated as a definitive buy signal.

What Could Go Wrong?

The crypto market still faces several obstacles. Momentum remains uncertain, while monetary policy continues to influence investor appetite for riskier assets. If interest rates remain elevated, retail and institutional investors may be less willing to allocate capital toward volatile cryptocurrencies such as SOL.

A continued period of weak market sentiment could push Solana lower before any sustained recovery begins.

For that reason, the whale’s $3.6 million purchase is best viewed as an interesting market signal rather than a recommendation to buy. Solana has shown that it can recover from major crashes, but whether this latest decline represents another attractive entry point will depend on liquidity, macroeconomic conditions, Bitcoin’s next cycle, and overall crypto-market demand.

In short, the whale may be positioning for the next major Solana rally, but investors should consider the risks carefully rather than simply copying the trade.
