Blockchain investigator ZachXBT has distanced himself from a wave of meme coins created without his authorization, stating that none of the tokens using his name or image have his backing. Instead of keeping the unsolicited assets sent to his public donation wallet, he liquidated them and donated the proceeds to humanitarian relief.
The onchain investigator contributed 25,000 USDT (approximately $25,000) through The Giving Block to GiveDirectly, supporting people affected by the devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24. His response has also renewed attention on the growing problem of impersonation tokens in the crypto market.
ZachXBT Says He Never Approved the Tokens
Over the past several days, multiple meme coins referencing ZachXBT appeared across different blockchain networks, prompting users on social media to ask whether he was involved in any of the projects.
ZachXBT clarified that he has no connection to the tokens. He has consistently maintained that meme coins and prediction markets fall outside the scope of his investigative work, which also excludes theft cases involving losses below $250,000 per victim.
A common tactic among token creators is to send newly minted coins to wallets associated with well-known figures, creating the false impression that those individuals support or participate in the project. ZachXBT’s public donation wallet became one such target.
To address speculation that he might be benefiting from the unsolicited tokens, he announced that every token received had been sold and that the proceeds would be donated. He also published the transaction details for a 25,000 USDT transfer, allowing anyone to verify the donation onchain independently.
The investigator has previously warned about coordinated meme coin promotion, including identifying multiple X accounts that allegedly promoted questionable token projects to their followers.

Donation Supports Venezuela Earthquake Recovery
The funds will assist victims of the powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24. According to GiveDirectly, the country experienced 7.2- and 7.5-magnitude earthquakes, among the strongest recorded there in more than a century.
GiveDirectly’s emergency fundraising campaign has collected hundreds of thousands of dollars toward its goal of providing direct cash assistance to affected families.
Following the disaster, members of the cryptocurrency community—including exchanges, charitable organizations, and independent fundraising initiatives—opened crypto donation channels, with stablecoins playing a significant role in delivering aid quickly.
Impersonation Tokens Continue to Raise Concerns
The incident underscores an ongoing issue within the crypto ecosystem, where opportunistic developers frequently launch tokens tied to public figures, brands, or trending events to attract speculative trading.
Even tokens created for unrelated purposes have experienced similar speculative activity. Earlier this year, a cryptocurrency associated with an FBI operation surged dramatically in value after gaining widespread attention on social media.
By redirecting the value of unwanted meme coins toward verified disaster relief, ZachXBT sought to remove any perception of endorsement while ensuring the funds served a humanitarian purpose. The episode also highlights the persistent challenges public figures face as impersonation tokens continue to circulate across crypto markets.
