Strategy Adds 950 BTC as Bitcoin Holdings Near Record High

Strategy has resumed its Bitcoin buying spree, purchasing another 950 BTC for $75.7 million and bringing its total holdings to 846,000 BTC.

Strategy has added another 950 Bitcoin to its corporate treasury, extending its position as the largest publicly known corporate holder of the cryptocurrency.

The company purchased the 950 BTC for approximately $75.7 million, paying an average of $79,670 per Bitcoin, according to its latest disclosure.

The purchase brings Strategy’s total Bitcoin holdings to 846,000 BTC, acquired for roughly $63.8 billion at an average cost of approximately $75,416 per BTC.

The latest acquisition comes after a three-week pause in Bitcoin purchases and follows a hint from Strategy co-founder and former CEO Michael Saylor, who posted the company’s Bitcoin acquisition chart on X with the caption, “a little more orange.”

Strategy’s Bitcoin position returns to profit.

The latest purchase comes as the value of Strategy’s Bitcoin treasury has moved back above its aggregate acquisition cost.

With Bitcoin trading around $84,800, Strategy’s 846,000 BTC holdings were worth approximately $71.7 billion at the time of the report.

That puts the company’s unrealized gain at roughly $8 billion, based on the reported average acquisition cost.

The position has changed significantly in recent months. At the market’s lows, Strategy’s Bitcoin holdings had fallen more than $11 billion below their acquisition cost on an unrealized basis.

The recovery in Bitcoin has therefore had a substantial effect on Strategy’s balance sheet. Given the size of its treasury, even relatively modest percentage moves in BTC can translate into billions of dollars of changes in the market value of its holdings.

First BTC purchase since August 31

The 950 BTC acquisition is Strategy’s first announced Bitcoin purchase since August 31.

During the period between purchases, the company was more active in managing its preferred securities. Strategy repurchased approximately $174 million worth of STRC, while its USD reserve remained above $6 billion.

STRC had previously fallen to around $75 before recovering toward its $100 par value. The stock closed Friday at approximately $98.51, according to the latest figures.

The activity illustrates Strategy’s broader approach to capital management, where Bitcoin purchases operate alongside its various preferred-stock and financing programs.

Saylor signals another accumulation.

Saylor’s post on X came shortly before the latest purchase was disclosed.

Strategy has acquired 950 $BTC and repurchased $174M of $STRC. As of 9/20/26, we hold 846,000 BTC and $6.09B of USD Assets. $MSTR https://t.co/hP4yLlKlOE

The former CEO has repeatedly used Bitcoin-related posts to draw attention to Strategy’s accumulation activity, making the latest “a little more orange” message a notable signal for Bitcoin watchers.

The subsequent disclosure confirmed that the company had added another 950 BTC to its treasury.

While the purchase is smaller than some of Strategy’s previous acquisitions, it brings the company close to its previous peak Bitcoin holdings.

Strategy is close to its record BTC balance.

Following the latest purchase, Strategy is only around 1,400 BTC below its previous record holding of 847,363 BTC.

The company’s total Bitcoin balance now stands at 846,000 BTC, representing one of the largest corporate cryptocurrency positions in the market by a wide margin.

At current prices, the value of that treasury is roughly $72 billion.

Strategy’s average purchase price of $75,416 also means Bitcoin’s current market price remains comfortably above the company’s aggregate cost basis.

The bigger picture

Strategy has made Bitcoin accumulation the centerpiece of its corporate treasury strategy since it first began purchasing the asset in 2020.

Rather than treating its Bitcoin holdings as a short-term trading position, the company has repeatedly used equity, preferred securities, debt, and other financing mechanisms to fund additional purchases.

That strategy has made Strategy’s stock and preferred securities closely tied to Bitcoin’s market performance.

The latest acquisition shows that the company’s Bitcoin accumulation strategy remains active after a brief pause.

With 846,000 BTC now in its treasury, Strategy is once again approaching its previous record holdings. At the same time, the rise in Bitcoin’s price has moved the company’s massive position back into billions of dollars in unrealized profit.

For Bitcoin markets, the purchase is another reminder that Strategy remains an active source of institutional demand, even as the company balances new BTC acquisitions with its broader capital-market operations.
